No Cyclone For Us.

Hi there,

Yes this is a good news, we didn't get any cyclone this time around.
We just lost one banana tree in the backyard due to the wind, and that was today, once the cyclone threat was gone for good...

The fallen banana tree.

And this is a very good thing for every body.
Especially for the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, who will have tomorrow night the opening of it's fishing exhibition called Gone Fishin'.

So this is with a happy mind that I am now waiting for this event to unfold.

Even if for my lunch break yesterday I had to watch the beach from inside of the car.
Like the old folks, who eats fish and chips from the front seat of their sedan. Parked at the end of the wharf, with the horses race on the radio and the air cond purring along...

View from my car yesterday, during lunch.

Yes there might not be much fishing to be done this coming weekend, and we had to postpone the little one birthday party because of the heavy rain. And as said before we did lost a banana tree.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Cyclone Warning.

Hi there,

We are now on cyclone watch, with a chance for a cyclone to hit latter during the day.
At the moment it is just a tropical low, but it is moving towards the coast and might become a cyclone.
The rain and winds are already pretty intense.
So it might be a few days before the next post on this blog.
But hopefully it will miss us and fizzle.

The little one is very disappointed, because they closed the schools...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Two Good News.

Hi there,

I wanted to share with you two good news.

First we, in Darwin, avoided the wrath of tropical cyclone Grant.
Grant was the first cyclone to hit the Northern Territory of Australia for this season.
It did beat around at sea for a few days and was supposed  to hit land on Christmas day, as a grim reminder of cyclone Tracy. Even if Grant was going to be much smaller than Tracy, Darwin's people still don't like the idea of a cyclone on Christmas day.
(The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, in Darwin, has a very good and informative display about cyclone Tracy).
But when it did hit the shore, it hit east of Darwin, and Darwin was spared.
Communities on the East of us did suffer, and hopefully will be back on their feet shortly.
So this is the first good news, from a Darwin resident point of view.

The second one, is even more extraordinaire...
It happened on the morning after Christmas, and I was not going to make a post about it, but Ms Frugal Down Under said that I should, so here it is ...

While going to fetch some milk from the corner shop, the morning after Christmas, I saw next to the footpath, what our little Dolly calls "Fairies picnic table"...
So I made a few quick photos with my mobil phone of the place where the fairies had a picnic on Christmas night, to show her once I would be back home.
And look! While we were peering through the photos Dolly and I, we noticed that on one of them I may have actually photographed the twirling made by a flying fairy!

The proof in image...

How exciting is that!
Little Dolly is really excited that daddy finally managed to photograph a fairy.
And she want the world to know...

So this is not yet a photo of an actual fairy, just the twirling made by one that was flying very very fast...
And this post as nothing to do with the piscatorial world...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

The first dragonfly

Hi there,

Since a few days now we can see the first dragonflies of the year in Darwin.
And for any fisherman of the city, seeing a dragonfly spell the start of the blue water season.
Usually the dragonflies arrive with the end of the wet and spell the start of the dry season.
All the different festivals should get going soon.

The first dragonfly, the best one of them all.

Which mean the pelagic season is going to begin soon... The chrome slices are going to come out, and the reels are going to sing again...
The water should become clearer, which is all relative in Darwin muddy sea. And the sky will be blue again.

The blue sky will be back.

So in principal, from now on the weather should become better and better.
But in earnest, we are not out of the wet season yet.
To the extant that the bureau of meteorology is not sure yet if we are going to have a cyclone hitting Darwin by the end of the week. The low is just behind the Tiwi islands at the moment.
So every body is waiting to know what the forecast will be for the next few days.
And to be honest, I am starting to be a bit over the rain and can't wait for the dry to really kick in. I would be happy to not have to worry about cyclones for a while too.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Cyclone Carlos

Hi there,

The city of Darwin is now on cyclone warning, and the cyclone is named Carlos.
It is not arrived yet, and we are not even sure if it will hit the city.
But I just wanted to show you a couple of images of the pre-cyclone effect on the neighborhood park.
Nothing massive, but still some strong winds already...

Ms. Frugal and Dolly walking down the park.

In front of the fallen tree.

It is more or less planned by the forecast experts that the cyclone Carlos should hit Darwin tonight or the following day.
So we do not know yet if we are going to spend the night at home or at the shelter...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Here comes the rain again.

Hi tere,

Do you remember this song?
"Here comes the rain again..."
Well this is what happens here this morning.
It is still dark, but I wake up because of the rain. First one of the season.
I do not know if it is just a one off before the monsoon, or if it started in earnest?
Still a wee bit early me think.

But it will refresh things, and I don't need to water the garden! And maybe the pawpaw and passion fruits will have a kick out of that!
And my daughter beans and carrots too!

And I just had a quick look at our local paper, and they predicted that this wet season will be a big one in regards to cyclone...

Yes, I won't be able to go fishing this morning... On the other hand, I will be able to have a bit of paper work done.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.
