The New Reidy's.

Hi there,

Today I am going to show you a fishing lure which is yet to be named...
The lure is made by Reidy's Lures in Australia.
It is a lure that look like it would be great to use on the mud flat, or land based above the shallow rock of the shore.
Maybe even just above some weeds bed.

So what does it look like?
Here it is:

The new Reidy's.

Yes this is nearly like a Little Lucifer...
But look at the bib, it is much shorter...
This is a very shallow Little Lucifer.
Except that it doesn't have a name yet, so it is not the shallow Little Lucifer.
In fact, Reidy's has a little competition going on at the moment, where people can send them some idea of names. The winner will see this very lure named after his or her idea, and will for this recieved a very cool prize from Reidy's.
Where to send the names you may ask?
To the following email address I would tell you:
Now, don't go telling that I never do anything for you...

Good luck to all, even if you beat me to it. And yes, I know that the odds are not in my favour.

But hey, it cold be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

P.S: Ho and yes, I was lucky enough to score one of these lures before they get released on the market, so I can't wait to go and give it a swim, to see what it look like in the water...
Thank you Reidy's.

Fishing in the local culture

Hi there,

Fishing is an important and integral part of the culture of Darwin. A city situated in the Top End of the Northern Territory of Australia. So much that many of the local businesses prefer to advertise on fishing lures than on stress balls, or baseball caps.
As an example here are three little fishing lures to support the argument.

First a lure with some advertising for the local casino, and no I do not support gambling, even if fishing might look a bit like gambling to the uninitiated (this lure is a Mad Mullet from Lively Lures).

A lure with the Skycity logo.

Then a lure with the logo from one of the most recognised insurer in Darwin, TIO (this lure is a Taipan from Reidy's).

TIO advertising fishing lure.

So far we have the gambling and the insurance industries represented.
Nice match some of you might say...

And now comes the education industry with a lure produced by a high school to celebrate the 21st birthday of the school (this lure is a Little Lucifer from Reidy's).

From Dripstone High School.

In Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

Ho how much I would have loved that my own high school was producing some cool fishing lures instead of just the T-shirts of the school's sport team...

The array of industries represented here on fishing lures, I believe demonstrate the importance of fishing in a place like Darwin.
Fishing is part of its local culture, like cowboys are part of Texas and the Eiffel Tower is part of Paris.

Now the question is what some archeologist will say about that in the future? Are we going to see one day some budding young archeologists like Ms. Dig look at the subject with interest and write about it in their blogs?
Personally I hope so.
Some people will argue that in the western world today, recreational fishing is nothing more than a hobby. But isn't a very popular hobby part of the cultural background of a society?

Yes here are some of the questions I ask myself when I spend a full weekend without fishing...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

The Advertising fishing lures

Hi there,

Here are some of my Advertising  fishing lures.
I sometimes fish with some of them. Albeit not the ones presented in this post, and even if I don't really believe that fishes can read, fishing lures with advertising on their sides do catch fishes.
The reason I do not fish with the ones presented here, is because all these ones are either old ones that are not produced anymore, or brand new in perfect condition still in the boxes.
The ones I use are either some that I found pre-used at the second hand shop, or some that I was able to obtain in double. So one can stay safe in the collection while the other go for a swim.
But if I find just one in it's box, it will stay in the box...

So without further ado, here they are, all from the brand Reidy's:

First the Reidy's AquaRat made for Incitec.

Side view.

View from the top, with the old Reidy's logo.

This AquaRat was made for Smorgon Steel.

Two side views at different angles.

A Taipan made for Top End Fishing Supplies, what a better present from a tackle shop.

View from the belly.

With the old logo from above.

These were the old ones for which production has stopped.
Now come the boxed ones.

A Little Lucifer for Travel NT. NT stand for Northern Territory, and it is a great place in Australia.

A colour that would pleased the Dutch.

The Judge, made for Komat'su.

I am sure that fishes would love this colour.

The Judge made for AFANT, The Amateur Fishermen's Association of the Northern Territory. (Australia)

Green is a very good colour for our rivers.

A B52's for RCR

The B52's is one of my favourite Barra lure.

And now as a special bonus another lure that I found at a second hand shop, but for which I do not have any clues as to what it is...
There is absolutely no branding on it, so I do not know who made it.
If by any chance you know, you are more than welcome to tell me about it.

Nice orange on the back.

And shiny on the sides.

So do you know what it is?

And just so you know, I am not spending all my hard earned cash on my lures, to give you a concrete example for all the lure presented in this post it costed me a grand total of around AU$17...
Not bad hey...

Still I have to confess that it is true that I spend a reasonable amount of time looking at or playing with them... Which might be why some people are starting to know me as the guy's who likes fishing lures...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Some new fishing lures for the collection

Hi there,

My fishing lure collection has greatly increased in the past few days...
Just by visiting the Reidy's lure factory where I was very kindly offered many old lures by Colin, the company owner.
And here are just a few of my new precious...
First a Goulburn Jack +5m (16.404199 feet).

They don't do this colour/pattern any more.

Then a Little Lucifer, which made me very happy...
Do you remember the Taipan I showed you last year? It is the same colour, sparkle and all!
So now I do know that this was a real colour and not someone who had messed-up with it.
(You never know with the lures that you find in Op Shops)...

The sparkly Little Lucifer.

From above.

Then a +3m (9.8425197 feet) yellow Aqua Rat still in its original box. Aqua Rat is also a lure that I discovered only a few months ago by finding one in a charity shop, so it is great to now have some (yes some) in perfect condition and still in the box.

Yellow Aqua Rat.

And another one in the box!

Reddish Aqua Rat.

And another Aqua Rat, not in the box, but older, with a different bib (shallower) and different eyes.

I like this colour.

And here comes the older of my Aqua Rat, in the Bleeding Mullet colours.
With the company logo on the back instead of the tail, like in the previous ones.

The oldie.

The old logo, featuring the Australian map.

Then a very interesting Taipan, which in this presentation has been discontinued too.

See through with holographic material inside.

View from the top.

I am sure that this one would work even as a surface lure. Imagine it being ripped across the surface and flashing all his reflective material in all direction... Pelagic's lollies, that is what I see...

And now the piece de resistance...
Another Taipan, but still in the box...
In a colour that I was yet to see...

My oldest Taipan.

And look at the address on the box, it is in Queensland! But the factory that I visited is in the Northern Territory (Remember that we are talking about Australia here). This indicate that this lure was made, and packaged before the factory moved from Mirani, West of Mackay in Queensland to a suburb of Darwin in the NT. I do not know exactly when the moved happened, but this might be one of my next question to the Reidy's people.
And to think that it is still in perfect condition.

The old address.

And this is it for now, I will show you some more another time.
Thanks again to Colin for being so generous, I really appreciate, it is not often that someone will give me that many great lures.

Now I do understand that some of you might be worried that I am turning into some kind of fishing nerd...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.
