The Coca Cola fishing lure, final chapter.

Hi there,

Here comes what should be the final chapter of the Coca Cola fishing lure saga, that you may have followed on this very blog. We are talking here about the Coca Cola fishing lures made by Reidy's in Australia,

The story started with a lure given to me as a present by Geoff Corry, and you can read all about it just there.
Then I got some more information about the lure, and wrote it in this post.
Everything seemed to be settled by then but something happened...
And this to me resounded like the end of the Coca Cola fishing lure epic.

Then out of nowhere a member of the FFF forum (http://fishingterritory.com/) pointed to me an auction on Ebay where someone was selling the same lure, in all the different depths it had been made.
Well you guess it, I was quick to check it out.
And yes I got them...
This was the first time and probably the last time that I was trying to buy something on Ebay. And I was very lucky as I got them at a very good price, very close to the retail price of these lures when sold in their catalogue's colours.

Enough reading lets look at the images:

The Taipan in 2m.

The Taipan in 3,5m.

The Goulburn Jack in 5m.

And out of the boxes just for a few quick photos:

In the same order from top to bottom.

And from above to look at the bibs.

You may notice that the Goulburn Jack has a slightly different pattern than the Taipan. The bubbles on the back of the lure are not exactly the same.

I went form not having a single one of them anymore, to finally have the full set.
The boxes are not in as good a condition as my previous one was, but they are still ok.
And yes these ones will stay at the office, and not swim for as long as they are mine.

They did arrive to me in a different way than my usual secondhand shop find, and cost nearly the same as regular retail price for this type of lure. So I guess that we could say that I went one more step in the fishing lures collection mania, and some could see it as a dangerous path...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

I'm back!

I'm back!
Doesn't this sound like a James Brown song?
Any way, yes I am back in the land of Oz, and it feels good.
(Is this another James Brown song? It Feels Good)
Ok yes you may have understood by now that I cam back from my little escapade overseas with some of my old CDs from when I was a kid...

And while I was away I learned some more information on the Coca Cola lure from a previous post.
Well, it would rather be more exact to say that my email received the news and it was also shared on the FFF forum, and that it is upon my return that I read and learnt all these things...
So here it is for the ones interested in the topic of fishing lures.

The boss from Reidy's Lures, the company that made this very lure, wrote that he believe that the Coke promo was only for the Northern Territory of Australia, and that 5000 lures only were produced. There were 13 printing plates mades and it would take 10 printing runs which would have been an absolute nightmare and very time consuming.

He also said that even him as the boss of the company did not get one of them.
So I offered to give him the lure if he wanted it for the Reidy's archive, and lucky me he declined the offer saying that he might get one from another source, so I can keep it.

And to think that I spend some of my holidays thinking that I may have to give away this little lure...

I also have to confess that during this little trip I visited more fishing tackle shops than museums...
But to save me, the time spent in the museums was longer than the one in the tackle shops...
Maybe because you can't buy what's in the museums, so no risk of spending it all while in there, as opposed to the fishing shops...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

P.S: And here are two little photos of a must to visit shop in Paris called: Des Poissons Si Grands, where I did a bit of shopping. Buying mostly some Mepps lures as I used to fish with them as a kid and can't find them in Darwin. I wonder how they will work up here...

More lure than I could ever use.

Ha, Paris...

And one more fishing lure for the collection!

Hi there,

Yes one new fishing lure has entered my little collection today.
How come you may ask...
Here is the story about it.

It began with a thread that I had started on the FFF forum about two of my Reidy's lures.
Many keen anglers participated to the thread, and some of them posted a number of photographs of some very nice lures on the thread.
This was an interesting discussion for people who like fishing lures...

Then  Geoff Corry of BarraBase said that he had a lure with the marking of Coke on it, and that I could have it if I wanted it...
Ho yes I wanted it!

So we started to swap a few PMs on the FFF web site to see how this lure could end up in my hands. During this exchange came up the fact that I still doesn't have a car, as I am still waiting for the insurance to pay since my car accident.
So Geoff simply proposed to deliver the lure at my work place. This conversation took part on a Friday, and on the following Monday morning he was in my office lure in hand.
This is what I would call a man of his words.

He also offered to help me with my car problems which I declined, but nonetheless this was a very generous offer on his part.

Ok so here are some pics of the Coke lure:
Brand new still in the box!

Yes it's a Taipan from Reidy's.

Some information about it.

Out of the box for a second.

Just so we can see it better.

And yes I did put it back in the box just after the photos were made.
I already had in my office at work a lure that look like a hamburger, this new one will sit next to it: they are the perfect match!
And yes it made me happy.

Ok, so I want it to be clear, that I do not own any share in Geoff's business, and that I don't get any rewards for mentioning him on my blog.
But you have to admit that for a guy who is one of the most famous and talented Barramundi fishing guide in Darwin, with over 25 years of experience in the Northern Territory of Australia, and who had never meet me before, to make the effort to drive to my work place, to give me a brand new fishing lure for my modest collection without asking for anything in return, is a pretty good and generous attitude.

I have never used the service of a fishing guide (Maybe if I had, I would have learnt how to catch some fishes and would not be fishless on such a frequency)
But if I was to use one of them in the Top End of Australia, it would be the guys from BarraBase.

This lure made my day.
So I have not been able to fish yet since the accident, and it sometimes makes me a bit frustrated.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.
