Jason's Leads

Hi there,
There are many good reasons to add a fishing lure to one’s collection.
It can be because the lure is rare, because it is a really good fishing lure, because it has a story attached to it or because it is a present from a good mate.

Well this lure is ticking the right case in about all of the above…
The lure is a Leads Lures, handmade in Queensland, Australia, by Terry Leadbeater. And yes it is made of timber. People, who love fishing lures, know both, how good these are at catching fish, and how hard it is to find them in the Territory. Despite still being produced today.

My first Leads Lures.

This lure has a story too.
Jason bought the lure around 1997, just north of Cairns.
Then went fishing land based from the rocks, when on his second cast…
Hooked and landed, his first ever meter plus Barramundi on this very lure!

The metery catcher.

Many keen anglers would keep the lure that caught them their first Barra over a meter long as a precious relic.  Some would even send it straight to the poolroom. But no, not him, who one day gave me a call saying: I am cleaning the shed, come around with a plastic bag, I have a few lures for you… And there I got my first two Leads (among many other lures); this was one of them.
For someone like me, still dreaming of catching my first metery. It made me wonder what I would do with the lure that will on day, help me to do it…

But more importantly you might have now guessed it, this was a present from a good friend, and this, makes the lure even more special to me.
Thanks mate.

I wanted to add a Leads Lures to my collection for so long.
Look at how beautiful it is:

Yes, I know, this lure never again will swim...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Two Good News.

Hi there,

I wanted to share with you two good news.

First we, in Darwin, avoided the wrath of tropical cyclone Grant.
Grant was the first cyclone to hit the Northern Territory of Australia for this season.
It did beat around at sea for a few days and was supposed  to hit land on Christmas day, as a grim reminder of cyclone Tracy. Even if Grant was going to be much smaller than Tracy, Darwin's people still don't like the idea of a cyclone on Christmas day.
(The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, in Darwin, has a very good and informative display about cyclone Tracy).
But when it did hit the shore, it hit east of Darwin, and Darwin was spared.
Communities on the East of us did suffer, and hopefully will be back on their feet shortly.
So this is the first good news, from a Darwin resident point of view.

The second one, is even more extraordinaire...
It happened on the morning after Christmas, and I was not going to make a post about it, but Ms Frugal Down Under said that I should, so here it is ...

While going to fetch some milk from the corner shop, the morning after Christmas, I saw next to the footpath, what our little Dolly calls "Fairies picnic table"...
So I made a few quick photos with my mobil phone of the place where the fairies had a picnic on Christmas night, to show her once I would be back home.
And look! While we were peering through the photos Dolly and I, we noticed that on one of them I may have actually photographed the twirling made by a flying fairy!

The proof in image...

How exciting is that!
Little Dolly is really excited that daddy finally managed to photograph a fairy.
And she want the world to know...

So this is not yet a photo of an actual fairy, just the twirling made by one that was flying very very fast...
And this post as nothing to do with the piscatorial world...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

My precious prizes.

Hi there,

Yes I have received the prizes for my win the the fourth round of the Top End Barra Series.
And let me tell you that this is some really cool prizes...

The best of them is the fishing rod: a G.Loomis GL2 CR665.

Yes, that's the one.

A fishing rod to which I would only give a quick and furtive glance once in a while at the tackle shop. Too expensive for my fishing budget, it was till last week just a dream.
And then all it took to have one was just an enormous amount of luck, and one of them become mine.
It is ultra light in the hand, yet cast like a breeze, and seem to be able to show some guts if a fish was to be caught. I can't wait for my first catch on this rod.
For the reel, I have mounted my old and trusty Curado 201E7 on it.

In situe.

This is a very nice combo, light and beautiful.
One of my favourite things about this rod, is that it comes accompanied by a very large understatement. Like most items of high quality, there is no bling attached to it. Just a very simple, short and efficient rod, made of the best materials possible. This fishing rod could be described as being chic, rather than trendy.
The lure on this images is a Reidy's B52.
This rod was the prize for winning the round.

The second prize was for having caught the biggest Barramundi of the round, and it is a Plano 1374 Guide Series tackle box.
An absolutely massive tackle box, which I think I may use mostly as a storage box for my lures at home.
First because I don't really see myself going fishing on the pushbike with such a large tackle box. Then, because it would be a bit awkward when I am lucky to be invited on a boat, to arrive and occupy half of the boat room with my gears. And finally for the very simple raison, that I need a one and all storage place for my lures at home, instead of having them all over the place...
Have a look at it:

My biggest tackle box so far.

So yes, it would be faire to say that when I look at my prizes, I am a happy chap.
Even if it is true that now I am very afraid of breaking my new rod...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

The Scarecrow

Hi there,

Yes this past weekend my little one made a scarecrow.
She went to the garden with mum, Ms. Frugal Down Under and when she came back, she ran toward me full of joy to tell me everything about it, and the conversation went like this:
"Dad we made a scarecrow!"
"A real one?"
"Yes a real one!"
"One that scare the birds?"
"No dad! We made a nice one..."

Well I had to go and see this nice scarecrow for myself, and I did that during my lunch break today.
And I may say, that yes she do look like a nice one.
Here she is:

Made by Dolly and Mum.

So now I do know that my little one wanted a nice and kind scarecrow who would not be mean to the birds... Yes it kinds of defeat the very purpose of a scarecrow...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me
