My Blog In The Art Magazine.

Hi there,

Yes The Rambling Expat as been cited in an art magazine.
And not any art magazine, but the very good Art Monthly Australia, which as its name's point out, is an Australian magazine.
Could we deduce from this, that fishing is starting to be recognised as an integral part of the Australian culture?

Now why did they feel the need to write about the blog in the magazine?
Was it for my writing talent?
No.
Was it for my photographic talent?
No.
I think that it was because of a post I did last month about a fishing exhibition being prepared by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, often referred to as MAGNT.

So do you want a proof?
Here is a little photograph of the short piece in which the blog was cited:

Cool, no?

This was a simple, funny and very kind way for the editor to announce the upcoming exhibition.
This is published in the "Sultry Summer Issue", for December 2011 to February 2012.
Here is a copy of one of the magazine cover for this issue:

One of two...

Yes I did write one of the magazine cover for this issue, and then captioned the image with "One of two"... Why? Simply because for this very issue, the editor choose to have two different cover for the magazine. Depending of your luck you could have this one or the other one when you buy the magazine.
What does the other cover look like?
Just go to the newsagent to find out, or check them out online, they have an electronic version of the magazine available.
And no, I do not get any royalties on the sales or subscriptions to the magazine.
Even if I have to say that yes, this is among the few magazines that I enjoy reading, so this is great.

It is true that after being cited in this magazine, I better have to lift my game in regards to fishing photography. And this worry me a bit, as when I am happily fishing, I do find it hard to focus on the image making thing too...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Did you fish over the weekend?

Hi there,

So did you went fishing over the past weekend?
Personally my fishing was pretty short lived, in big parts due to bad tides timing, and for not wearing my rock hopper boots when I should have worn them...

I started to walk along one of my favourite rock ledge wearing my plastic clog, while the proper footwear for this kind of place were in the backpack that was just on my back...
Silly no?
I was just thinking that I would put them on, once at the end of the ledge.

So I slipped on some wet rock and loose my right shoe and trying not to fall I put my naked foot forward... That is just where was waiting for the tip of my toes, a rock full of sharp oysters...
A burning sensation was immediately felt, and blood stained the rock around my foot.
And that was it, most of my weekend plans had to be reworked.

cut and bruised toes.

I think that I will now remember to wear them at all time on the rocks.
After all that is what I bought them for.

So limping, painful toes and no fish for the week.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Cyclone Carlos

Hi there,

The city of Darwin is now on cyclone warning, and the cyclone is named Carlos.
It is not arrived yet, and we are not even sure if it will hit the city.
But I just wanted to show you a couple of images of the pre-cyclone effect on the neighborhood park.
Nothing massive, but still some strong winds already...

Ms. Frugal and Dolly walking down the park.

In front of the fallen tree.

It is more or less planned by the forecast experts that the cyclone Carlos should hit Darwin tonight or the following day.
So we do not know yet if we are going to spend the night at home or at the shelter...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Bad luck car crash.

Hi there,

So last Sunday I was in some sort of little car crash while on my way to my Unicycle lesson.
Bad luck more than anything else, but as always I had my seat belt and that I am sure, made a difference in the final result.

I have to thank Ms K, my unicycle instructor, as she was quickly on the spot after I called her to say that I would have to cancel the day lesson.
She was very supportive and took care of our car by getting it under cover at her place.
That was a great help at a time when Ms Frugal and I needed it.
Ms K acted as a true friend, at a not so easy time in her own life, thank you for that.

Ms. Frugal did a post of the story on her blog, so I won't write about it for too long.

Basically I was just slowing down to let a big Blue Tongue cross the road when a guy hit the back of my little car with his four wheels drive.
This will teach me to care for our wild life...
Just kidding...

The truth is that i am just very happy to still be able to walk on my feet.
I am just a bit worried about the whiplash now.

Even if we don't have a car any more, as it is a total write-off...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.
