A Lure Signed by Bear Grylls.

Hi there,

A while ago, I was lucky enough to be gifted a fishing lure signed by Bear Grylls from the TV show Man vs. Wild.

Who in its right mind, would gift me such a great present you may ask...
Well no one else than Mario, the producer of the great fishing radio show Tales From The Tinny.
One evening at the Ski Club, he said that he had a signed lure to give me. It didn't take me long after that to give him a call, and tell him that we should catch up one day for lunch.

So we met up for a quick lunch, and share a few fishing stories, with me impatient to see this lure that Mario had told me about.
When he pulled out of his pocket this great big black Bomber 16A, hand signed by Bear Grylls himself. While he was in Darwin for the filming of a segment of his television show. A big smile, I could not hide.
Without any more teasing, here it is, still in the box:

The signed Bomber in the box.

Yes, for the purpose of this post, I did open the box, and made a photograph of the lure by itself, so you could see it better.

Bear Grylls signed black Bomber.

In the box it quickly went back, just after the photo, and from now on will stay in there.
Because, yes this is another lure that will never swim. Even if one of my fishing buddies told me that it would be great to see it hanging from the bucket mouth of a big Barramundi. There is no way I am going to risk losing it.

The only problem that I have with this  fishing lure, is that I now have another sub-section in my little collection: the celebrities signed fishing lures...
And that I have only one in this category.

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

The Reservoir Dogs Fishing Lures

Hi there,

Yes I still have a full set of the Reservoir Dogs fishing lures, despite fishing with them on a regular basis.
These lures were made a few year ago by Relic Lures, a company based in America, and they were produced in reference to the gangster movie Reservoir Dogs made by Quentin Tarantino.

And here they are:

The full set.

The set is from top to bottom: Mr. White, Mr. Pink, Mr. Orange and Mr. Blond.
And yes they can give your terminal tackle a gangsta look with the bullet holes and black sunglasses.

Your talking to me?

They have the Reservoir Dogs logo tattooed on their bellies:

Bearing it on the stomach like a Yakusa tattoo.

And their individual name on the tail:

Introducing Mr. Orange

And Mr. Blond.

Ho yes I can hear you asking: "But do they catch any fish?"
To this I will be pleased to tell you that yes they are efficient in the fishy business:

A Little Trevally from the Vernon Islands.
(This image is copyrighted by a great photographer so please don't lift it, thanks.)

Because yes, all this fishing can make you hungry...
So here comes another lure, also made by Relic Lures, the Hamburger!

Everybody likes a bit of junk food now and then...

These ones were made for the restaurants Maragaritaville in the USA.

With the restaurants logo under the belly.

As you can see I got these lures before I even started to think about having a collection of fishing lures. And they have been in the water more than once.
In fact I had the double set of the Reservoir Dogs ones, I only have one full set now.
I know this is a bit silly as they would have been great in the collection...
And I still use them...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.

Blogs VS. Reality TV.

Hi there,

For a few days now, I have been wondering about a possible link between the huge numbers of blogs on the web, and the popularity of reality TV shows...
Could we find a nearly filial relationship between the two medium?

Are most of personal blogs just a cheap and maybe more direct, less edited and prepped  experience than Survivor, X Factor, Big Brother, Tool Academy, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and other?
Is this what makes the success of today's blog phenomenon?

From a very long time people have been writing personal diary, but since how long have they been willing to share out these diary with who ever want to read them?
With very little control on the potential or actual readers, yet still being excited by personal rating in terms of visitors, followers and comments.

Some blogs are very personal and describe some very private thoughts or situation, and would in very recent times have been seen as either exhibitionism or breach of privacy.
Are personal blogs another chip taken from the mantle of privacy?
Or are blogs authors always in control of what is written and shown on the different blogs to be found out there?

Is having a successful blog a way for the commoner, to attain a semblance of fame aspired by so many in our celebrity driven society?

Certainly I do not have the answers for all of these questions. But this is some of the things that keep my brain busy lately...
I am sure that someone must have done a PhD on the topic, I would be interested to read about it.

In fact it is a bit like life, so many question, an so few certitude...

But hey, it could be worse.
Have a good day,
Me.
